The largest primary
school teachers' union says it is delighted Horowhenua school teacher Mike
Neville has got his job back. Mr Neville, of Levin,
who last month was found not guilty of sexual assaults on four former
students earlier this month, was reinstated to full teaching duties by his
school's board on Monday. The reinstatement was
announced in a brief statement by the board of the Kapiti school, which
retains name suppression from the trial. NZEI Te Riu Roa, the
union of which Mr Neville is a member, welcomed his reinstatement. NZEI national president
Colin Tarr said the union had supported Mr Neville since the allegations
against him were made 19 months ago. "The information
the union had from the outset of the case made it clear he was innocent of
the charges," Mr Tarr said in a statement. "We welcomed his
acquittal and now we welcome the news that he will be returning to the
classroom at the school where he has taught since 1995.' "We hope his
return to the classroom is a smooth one and that he is allowed to put the
events of the last 19 months behind him and resume a career he remains
committed to pursuing." Mr Neville will return
to teaching in the first term of this year. |
