A Tauranga judge has
granted continued interim name suppression for four men accused of a pack
rape at Mount Maunganui 15 years ago. In a lengthy written
submission, Judge Peter Rollo concludes that releasing the names would
significantly prejudice the men's rights to a fair trial. The judge also cited
the potential impact on the defendants' families. However two of the
accused, who did not appear in court, were given only seven days' extended
name suppression. A depositions hearing
has been set down for November 8. |
